"Being lectured by the president on fiscal responsibility is a little bit like Tony Soprano talking to me about law and order in this country. "

John Kerry at the 3rd Presidential Debate

President Bush thought it was a great idea and in an unusual use of reality looked for the person closest to Tony Soprano he could find to provide law and order advice -- Bernard Kerik. It is reported by the New York Daily News,

"When he headed the city's jails, Bernard Kerik became deeply entangled with a New Jersey construction company long under fire for its alleged mob ties, a Daily News investigation found.

"Kerik's troubling connection to the company, Interstate Industrial, began in the fall of 1998.

"Charges that Interstate, based in Clifton, N.J., is controlled by organized crime resurfaced last month when a mob turncoat, Anthony Rotondo, testified in Manhattan Federal Court that Interstate paid protection money to the Gambino crime family."
